About Bounty Hunter Metal Detectors — 50 Years of Treasure Hunting

Bounty Hunter was founded in 1973 as a manufacturer of metal detector accessories. Within a decade, the company had grown into a full detector brand and patented its groundbreaking Target ID technology in the 1980s — a system that lets users identify buried metals before digging, revolutionizing the hobby for millions of treasure hunters worldwide.

In 1999, First Texas Products acquired Bounty Hunter and brought the brand under the same roof as Fisher Research Labs and Teknetics. Under the leadership of chief engineer Dave Johnson, who joined in 2003, the entire product line was redesigned for improved performance, reliability, and ease of use — all while keeping prices accessible to beginners.

Today, every Bounty Hunter metal detector is designed and assembled in El Paso, Texas. The brand remains America's best-selling entry-level metal detector line, trusted by families, hobbyists, and educators who want dependable, affordable equipment backed by a 5-year warranty and decades of American engineering.

Bounty Hunter Metal Detector Reviews from Real Users

Thousands of treasure hunters trust Bounty Hunter detectors. Here's what they're finding.

Bought the Tracker IV as my first metal detector and I'm hooked. Found two Indian head pennies and a silver Roosevelt dime in my first month. For under $100, this thing is unbelievable.

Got the Gold Digger for my 10-year-old and now the whole family goes detecting on weekends. It's so light she can swing it for hours. We've found old buttons, coins, and even a class ring at the park.

Sarah K.Sarah K.

Upgraded to the Time Ranger Pro after two years with the Tracker IV. The 11-inch DD coil covers so much more ground and the ground balance makes a real difference in mineralized soil. Worth every penny.
